Description
Many of you will recognise the Djembe Drum as the main instrument used during the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir Tour.
A djembe or jembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying “Anke djé, anke bé” which translates to “everyone gather together in peace” and defines the drum’s purpose.
Usually a item on our craft table due to Covid-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 Tour we now have them available to purchase online. Due to the size and fragility of the drums we will not be shipping them out but instead arranging through our UK wide network of volunteers local collection points in the UK.
Our core collection points will be the following cities and surrounding areas; Morpeth, Leeds, Lancashire, Liverpool, Kidderminster, Shropshire, Cornwall, London and South Wales. If you live outside of these areas please email Becs on becs@pearlofafrica.org.uk to discuss shipping options.
In total we have four sizes of the Djembe Drum.
